There are times at South Jefferson, when we see someone go above and beyond, to help
someone. This week, that person was Grant Koch, 5th grader at SJES. Grant always includes a student that struggles socially in recess activities, at lunch and in the classroom. He helps this student by modeling kindness and appropriate responses, encouraging different ways to manage conflicts. He is patient and kind. While Grant excels academically, this compassion, respect and kindness are exemplary traits to celebrate! Well done, Grant! 💜💛

P.S. How can Grant be taller than me now? I remember his first day in kindergarten. 🥺

Just an FYI:
Our picture day retakes, scheduled for tomorrow, will be rescheduled. Again. Stay tuned for a new date.

JCS Community: All Jefferson County Schools (Pre-K - 12) are closed on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Students and teachers will operate on a Non-Traditional Instruction Day schedule. Many roads in Jefferson County remain covered in packed ice with temperatures forecasted to stay below freezing through tomorrow morning. Information about practices and activites will be made and communicated by 12pm tomorrow, January 23, 2205.
JCS offices will open at 9 am; essential personnel should contact their supervisor for scheduling.

Do you want to hear about a caring and kind student at SJES? Look no further than third grader, Briar Hovatter. Briar was nominated by his teacher, Mrs. Hipp. When our third graders were working on gingerbread houses before the winter break, a classmate dropped their gingerbread house and it broke. Briar immediately came to the rescue and even offered to give up his OWN gingerbread house to the classmate. Briar, thank you for being an incredible friend and for demonstrating what kindness in action looks like!

Fifth grader, Jace Moreno, was nominated for a Positive Office Referral for showing kindness to a student who is struggling in school. Jace is patient, kind and includes this student when others may choose to turn away. This level of maturity and empathy is something that deserves to be celebrated and recognized. Thank you for being a leader in our school, Jace. Super proud of you! 💜

Mrs. Blank nominated fifth grader, Makenzee Bates for her kindness and willingness to help straighten up the classroom each day. Makenzee does this without being asked and is the first one to pitch in when needed. Thank you for being so helpful to others, Makenzee! That is awesome! 🤩

Good morning, South Jefferson families! I sure hope everyone is staying safe and warm today in these terribly cold temperatures. Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate through our first Non-Traditional Instruction Day (Snow Day #6). Our staff worked hard to get everything set up quickly so that we would be prepared for a day like today. Is it fool-proof? Nope. Would we all prefer to be in the building? Yes. But we will make it work, as we always do, WITH your support. We've got this! Thank you, as always, for how much you support our school, our staff and your children. The teamwork that we have at SJES is top notch and I will always be grateful! 💜💛 Ms. Mahoney

Mr. Hill is our part-time custodian at South Jefferson. I know he would have never let me take his picture today, but I wanted our community to know what an amazing person he is….this is the second snow storm that he has tackled this month, coming on his day off, to make sure our sidewalks are cleared, salted and safe for everyone. He doesn’t like fanfare or to be publicly acknowledged, but I sure do believe that he deserves to be applauded for his work ethic and his commitment and love for our school.
Thank you, Mr. Hill.
We appreciate you.
💛💜

Aiden Moreno was nominated for a Positive Office Referral by his teacher, Mrs. Mangum. She celebrated how Aiden comes to school each day, with a growth mindset and a willingness to learn! Sounds like the ideal Roadrunner to me! Well done, Aiden! 🥳
